Arcade stunt flight, in a headset and in a browser. Faceted Flight shipped on Steam in 2016; this is it rebuilt for the open web, ten years on.
Checking what this device can do…
Today: all thirteen 2016 missions, in the modes they shipped in. You start in the hangar at the bottom of the launch shaft, pick a course off the holotables, and ride the lift out into it. Both vehicles fly — the HoverJet and the JumpSeat — across Simonet Islands, the alpine forest, the desert canyon and Kauai. Ring Attack against two AI racers, Target Practice, Free Flight. Medals, a score, and a personal best that outlives the tab.
Under it: a fixed-step simulation at 81.967 Hz, and terrain generated at runtime from the 2016 heightmaps by a port of the original generator — bugs included, because they are in the silhouette. Where this build knowingly departs from 2016, there is a written reason for it; the ledger runs to seventy-odd entries and most of them are an argument with the original.
Sound is new. Every effect is synthesized rather than sampled, so none of it is anybody's to license. The soundtrack is six synthwave tracks by HoliznaCC0, released into the public domain — no credit is owed and it is given anyway.
Not yet: nobody has worn this. The comfort settings, the lift ride and the JumpSeat have all been measured and none of them has been felt. If something in here makes you queasy, that is worth more to me than a bug report.
